The government plans to introduce Universal smart card driving licences. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has decided to modify the current format of driving licenses to laminated card without chip or smart card type driving licences. This Ministry will accomplish the mission through its flagship application called SARATHI (for driving license) developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC).
